About
I grew up on my family's farm in Clay County, in Northwest Iowa, in what I would now refer to as a "working agro-ecological landscape." I have always been interested in agriculture and wildlife in most of its taxonomic forms, especially plants. Predictably, my education has followed these themes, and I expect my career to continue along these same lines.
I've never thought of myself as someone who "stayed in Iowa," given the nature of my interests and travels, although I realize I've spent all but 2 years of my life here.
I enjoy birding; hiking, camping and canoeing; beer-brewing, gardening and cheese-making; hunting; and drinking beer and arguing about things that matter.
